Franne
Lee, a born artist, started her studies in
Studio Art and finish as a
Costume/Set
Design
in Theatre
at the
University
of
Wisconsin
at
Madison.
She
began her professional career in
New York
theatre with Andre Gregory's
"
Alice
in Wonderland" for which she received an Obie Award for
Costumes.
Her many Broadway credits also include Hal Prince's
productions of "Candide" and "Sweeney
Todd" for which
Franne received Tony Awards for Costume Design for
both productions.

Her
film credits include John Sayles' "Baby It's You", Paul
Simon's "One Trick Pony", David Lynchs’"Industrial
Symphony #1" and Al Pacino's "Chinese Coffee".
Franne's
TV credits include the first five years of Saturday Night Live, for
which she won an Emmy Award for Sets and Costumes. More TV work followed
when franne moved to LA in 1995 where she designed "Sherman
Oakes" for Showtime and "Roseanne" for King World.
In
1999 Franne moved to
Nashville
and designed "On Music Row"
a TV movie of the Week. This lead to designing local music
videos, commercials and theatre. This one stands out, designing the
costumes for “Waiting for Godot”, at
Belcourt Theater for Peoples Branch Theatre. (see article)
On
Nov. 10th 2001, Franne opened the Plowhaus, a new Artists' Cooperative
in
East Nashville
, bringing her full circle back to her artist roots Plowhaus has been
opened now for 5 years and has grown from a small store front to a
full scale gallery space. Franne is the Director of the coop.,
and she has been in almost every
group show at the gallery, and did one
1Wall 1 Artist Show..
Her art work has also been seen at
Art and Invention Gallery, Untitled Shows for over 3 years,

Gifts She will be represented at the new Estel Gallery to open
fall of ’06 in Downtown
Nashville
.
She
also teaches Costume Design at Belmont Univ. Theatre Dept. where
she can keep in touch with her designing roots. She hopes to keep
working and making art for
all her days.
